The Glendale Fire Department recently added an additional firefighter to its staff. Firefighter Justin Leesmann was hired July 1st by the City of Glendale through a grant from FEMA. The purpose of the grant is to help departments increase the number of trained “front-line” firefighters available in their communities. The grant will pay the firefighter’s salary for the first two years of employment, with the city responsible after that time period.
The Glendale Fire Department is currently staffed with a Fire Chief, an Assistant Chief, and three crews of firefighters. Firefighters work a 48 hours on/ 96 hours off shift. Firefighter Leesmann has been assigned to C-crew, which had previously been short staffed due to promotions.
With the hiring of the additional firefighter, staffing levels have been brought to four firefighters on the pumper for all three crews.
